The Sickest Burn of Super Bowl XLVIII
On February 2, 2014, I found myself in a conference room watching the Super Bowl with six of the funniest people I know. We were leading Ford's Super Bowl social media efforts, armed with pizza and surrounded by a diverse team – writers, clients, a lawyer, account managers, and analysts monitoring the social conversation in real-time. Our campaign centered around #nearlydouble, supporting Ford's Super Bowl advertising package. The concept was simple: two spots showcasing how Ford vehicles offered nearly double the features and benefits compared to their competitors. It was halftime, with Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers providing the entertainment, and the Seahawks were absolutely dominating the Broncos. That's when someone on our team – though I can't remember exactly who – came up with a tweet that set social media ablaze. It might not have been the most savage burn ever, but it certainly got people talking.
